We love that Praxis wines are getting a lovely reputation for quality at a fair price. Our 2005 Praxis Sauvignon Blanc was named as one of the "Best American Wines Under $15" by Food & Wine Magazine in April. And we were thrilled to win "Best Merlot under $20" in the United States from Food & Wine Magazine last fall! Finally, our Praxis Viognier was awarded Best of Class with a Double Gold Medal at the 2008 Houston Rodeo Wine Competition! Bill's first Double Gold - and now the 2003 Arbios has garnered a second Double Gold for us! To us Praxis is a way to let Bill play with different winemaking techniques and…as he likes to say, “Praxis makes perfect!” Praxis is from the Greek for practice and was an early 19th Century philosophy relating to the unattainable search for perfection. Like Arbios, all of the Praxis wines are 100% of their varietal – most are from a single vineyard. All of Bill’s wines tend to be more European in style – balanced without excessive alcohol. In the spirit of Praxis, we have just released a Dry Sryah Rose from Alexander Valley and a Lagrein from the Central Coast. The Rose is dry and full of strawberry aromas and flavors. This is Bill's first Rose in 20 years and we are delighted with the results. Lagrein is a varietal that we first tasted in the Italian Alps and fell in love with...the wine is deep garnet and robust. Only 125 cases of the 2005 were bottled. On a personal note, we are surviving the fires and HOT weather this month. Smoky, but not enough to threaten the grapes. We had a fire near the vineyard last month, but no damage. However, we are still months from rain and the end of the fire season. Although we have the fabulous support of people across the country hand selling our wines, Bill and I are the only staff here so please feel free to contact us with any questions, queries or special requests. Praxis 2006 Viognier Silver Medal California State Fair 2007 The Wine Enthusiast gave our Praxis Syrah a respectable 85 points with these notes "shows lots of mixed berries and carmelly oak on the nose, while the flavors veer toward simple cherry and vanilla. LIght in body and supple of tannin; an easy drinking Syrah with mass appeal"!
